Board of Directors for 2008-2009

President:
Kenny Surowitz
president@aarclub.com
Kenny has been a member of AARC for nearly 4 years and enjoys long-distance running.  He has been a member of AARC's Reach-the-Beach team twice, and organized and led an AARC team to the Hood-to-Coast relay in 2007.  This is his second year on the Board.  He is interested in expanding the Club's running-related activities such as special Saturday runs ("Waffle Runs") and member races.  He wishes he was younger and faster, and is determined to beat his 2005 Marathon PR.   He is a microbiologist by training and works for Merck.
Vice President:
Alan Gross
idcgem@comcast.net

Alan has served on the AARC Board for the last 5 years.  Last year he served as vice president and headed the Sponsorship Committee and the Publicity Committee.  He has also worked on the Phils and Frostbite race committees for the last three years.

Alan enjoys running in local races, including Broad Street and PDR (when he is not injured), and has completed two Philly Marathons.   He enjoys helping the club promote running and working to help produce races.  He likes the camaraderie of the runners in the club and values the friendships he has made.
Treasurer:
Ira Meyers
idmrun@aol.com
Ira has been involved with running for about 35 years, competitively, professionally and recreationally.  His main goal for AARC is to help other runners achieve their goals in a fun, educational and stimulating environment.  Ira is the winner of the 1986 Philadelphia Marathon.
Secretary:
Joe Harrison
Joe was a member of the club in its first year and has been a member since 2004. He participated on two Reach the Beach Relay teams and also took part with some other club members in the 2007 Hood to Coast Relay. An active runner since 1982 with over 20 Broad Street Runs, 19 Philly Distance Runs and eight Marathons, Joe once placed 3rd in his age group in a Roxborough YMCA 5K with a small field. He looks forward to getting good speakers for our general meetings, increasing club participation by members with more running focused activities, and making the club a welcome place for runners of all speeds.
Director-at-large:
Lisa Borisoff
Lisa has been a member of AARC for several years and has served as Membership Chair and on various Race Committees.  She has also participated in several AARC sponsored team events and a Reach The Beach relay.  Lisa ran her first Marathon in 2006.  According to Lisa "I am so grateful for all that AARC has given me, in both friendships and assisting me with my running, that I want to give back by being more involved with the Club".
Director-at-large:
Tom Jennings
Tom, a 30-year competitive runner, has been a member of AARC almost from the beginning and has served on the board for five years, the last four as Treasurer and coordinator of club teams for the Broad Street Run and PDR.  For the past two seasons, he has been coach for the club's weekly track workouts.  In the coming year, he looks forward to relinquishing the duties of Treasurer to Ira, and to working with the newly-formed Running & Racing Committee to provide a greater variety of running opportunities and adventures for club members.
Director-at-large:
Kate Schwartz
Kate is a longtime member of AARC, and a Board member for the past two years.  She loves running, helping people, having a good time, and inspiring other runners, and melded all those interests together by founding Shady Grove Elementary School's Spring Zing 5K, and has been its Race Director for its first five years.  She also helped found and manage AARC's 2006 Montgomery County Race Series, and has continued to help out with planning, registration, and results for many of the local runs.  Her favorite run was the 2006 Broad Street 10 Miler, where she ran an extra mile from the train to the start of the race.  She also loved her first Boston Marathon last year.
